Can you honestly say that you really push yourself when you need to? Have you broken through that mental barrier by telling yourself that you can do the movement, that you can do one more rep, or that you just need to lift that bar?
I see it over and over again in the gym: people who thought they couldn’t do something, whether it is a heavy lift or a gymnastic move. But after a lesson in proper technique and some coaching on their mental approach, they always conquer their fear and achieve exactly what they said they couldn’t.
