There will come a point in your life when you will be forced to choose with conviction. And it might not happen for months, or years… But when you find yourself on the cusp of momentous times, you’ll feel it. You can either choose to fight or allow yourself to be swept away and grow.
My moment came last year in choosing to embrace London. A year ago, London wasn’t in my plans, my goals, or my future. Until it was. I still fought it, and bought myself a few more months of New York, my family, and my existence as I knew it. Maybe I knew that without distractions and my comfort zone, I would be forced to face my weaknesses. And possibly, I understood that once I crossed the ocean, there would be no going back.
You might think I’m reading too much into moving across the ocean. But as I boarded the plane, leaving my teary family behind, I made a promise that has shaped the last eight months of my life. I swore that no matter how much I yearned for what was, I would choose happiness, daily. Sometimes that meant coming home and being consumed by tears. Other times that meant showering my family and friends abroad with love. But most of the time that meant choosing to be selective with my time and addressing the areas of my life that needed to change. And slowly, I began to right the wrongs that were weighing me down.
So where does CrossFit come in? When we walk through the door, we can either embrace the movements and the daily WODs or not. When the act of approaching the bar with mental strength makes or breaks a lift, choosing to come to class just isn’t enough. When you find yourself looking at others while WOD’ing, you also aren’t choosing CrossFit enough.
What’s growth? Being scared, but still moving. Feeling strong and not doubting. And choosing to get lost while WOD’ing.
